Course Description

Golden State Training Center, is a licensed baton training facility through the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) and employs licensed baton instructors.

The Baton Training Class is from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm (with an hour lunch break). Registration starts at 9:00 am. View the Training Calendar for upcoming class dates. The cost of the class is $200. (cost of the class includes the $60 State Baton Licensing Fee).  Call Golden Security Training Center to register for a class. Classes are scheduled based upon student interest and a 3-4 student minimum attendance is required to hold a class.

The Baton Training Class is designed to give students the minimum level of proficiency of carrying and use a baton while on duty as a private security guard. Topics covered are: Moral and Legal Aspects of Baton Usage, Use of Force, Baton Familiarization and it's Uses, First Aid for Baton Injuries, and Fundamentals of Baton Handling.

The class will primarily focus on the straight baton, however side handle (PR-24), and expandable batons will also be covered. The class is part lecture discussion and part physical training using our training batons and equipment. Dress properly for this physical training.

In addition to hands on/manipulative skills training, Golden State Security Training Center only training center in Northern California, that utilizes an interactive 3D digital trainer that incorporates a reactive response by its subjects/assailants to the student’s baton strikes at the interactive screen.   This simulator allows our students to immerse themself into realistic and real time situational incidents, where they can make personal defense decisions, which include application of the baton in their defense, prior to potential future real life incidents they may find themselves involved.  Upon proper placement of a baton strike, the 3D subject/assailant even realistically reacts as if they have been struck by the baton.  This state of the art digital simulator, brings a whole new level of advanced training for our students

Only security guard applicants or registered (licensed) security guards may take this class. Security guards must have a valid security guard registration (guard card) and a baton permit before they may lawfully carry a baton on duty.
Students will take, and must pass, a written exam and a skills evaluation based upon the knowledge gained in the class. The Baton Permit will be issued after successful completion of the training class. Baton permits do not expire.
